One-Way Sailing Passages to the Grenadines

One-way passage charters run southbound with the east-northeast trades and finish at Carriacou, at the north end of Grenada. Three lengths: 10 days from St Vincent, 14 from St Lucia, 21 from Martinique. Every leg is downwind, and the captain handles all clearances.

Why do these trips run south?

Because the trades blow from the east-northeast nearly every day of the season. Sailing north from Grenada means beating into them. Southbound, the same islands become reaching and running legs — shorter days, flatter water, and no one spends the week bashing to windward.

Which one-way trip should you pick?

Ten days from St Vincent if you want the Grenadines without a long channel crossing. Fourteen from St Lucia if you want the Pitons and a lay day beneath them. Twenty-one from Martinique if you want a week of French islands before the English ones.

Questions about this itinerary

Which trip duration is right for me?

We run three one-way itineraries, all finishing in Carriacou. The 10-day starts in St Vincent and focuses purely on the Grenadines. The 14-day starts in St Lucia, adding the Pitons before heading south. The 21-day starts in Martinique and gives you the French islands as well. Prefer to start and finish in Grenada? See our 5-, 7-, 10- and 14-day round-trips.

Which airports should I fly into and out of?

Arrival depends on trip length; departure is the same for all three. 10-day: into St Vincent (SVD). 14-day: into St Lucia (UVF). 21-day: into Martinique (FDF). All trips depart from Carriacou (CRU) or Grenada (GND) — Carriacou is a small field, so most guests connect south to Maurice Bishop International by short hop or ferry. Send us your dates and we’ll confirm the cleanest pairing.

What is the best time of year to sail?

December through April, the prime Caribbean season with steady northeast trades. We do not sail inside a named-storm window. Itineraries stay weather-dependent: if the trades are blowing hard, we drop the Mustique visit rather than give up the second night in the Tobago Cays.

What happens in the event of rough weather?

The captain reroutes. Every itinerary holds a spare day specifically for this, and we deliberately do not push the boat down to St George’s on the final day — that is the decision that turns a relaxed trip into a rushed one. For safety we also stay well clear of the Kick ’em Jenny submarine volcano between Carriacou and mainland Grenada.

What are the passport and visa requirements?

A valid passport is required for every guest. Your captain handles the physical boat clearances at each border, so in normal cases you never visit a customs office. 21-day guests: Martinique is French territory — verify your eligibility for short-stay entry to France before booking. Mustique: landing is privately controlled and subject to permission and a fee, which the captain confirms before we go ashore.
